Anxiety Psychotherapy in Providence

Image
Anxiety and frustration go together more than people realize... When your mind is overloaded, small things can set you off like background noise, interruptions, someone chewing too loudly. It’s not that you want to snap; it’s that your brain has no bandwidth left. At work, this can make teamwork exhausting. At home, it creates tension with loved ones, leading to guilt and more stress. It’s not your fault, it just becomes a cycle that’s hard to break. What is Emotional Eating?

Image
We’ve all reached for a tub of ice cream after a stressful day or craved something sweet when feeling low. But when food becomes a primary coping mechanism for emotional distress, it can lead to patterns that affect both our mental and physical wellbeing. Emotional eating is not about hunger. It’s about using food to manage feelings. And while it can offer temporary comfort, it often leads to longer-term distress. Understanding the psychology behind emotional eating can help people recognize what’s really going on beneath the surface — and begin to find healthier ways to cope. https://pvdpsych.com/psychology-behind-emotional-eating/

Substance Use Disorder

Clinical Psychologist

Image
Dr. Sam Gauvin I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Rhode Island and offer online and in-person therapy to individuals located in the state. I conduct individual therapy most frequently with college students and other young adults. However, I also sometimes work with older adolescents and adults within my areas of focus. My areas of interest and specialization include: working with the LGBTQIA+ community, and exploring other intersecting aspects of identity, culture, and experiences of prejudice and oppression, anxiety, depression, trauma, perfectionism, self-esteem issues, identity development, and relationship issues. I work to ensure that therapy is tailored to the needs of each client by incorporating evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and trauma-informed approaches into a Humanistic foundation that uses a warm, collaborative, supportive, and nonjudgmental approach. https://pvdpsych.com/samantha-gauvin-psyd/

Dialectical Behavior Therapy Near Me

Image
DBT Skills Training is comprised of four modules. These modules are Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance, and Interpersonal Effectiveness, respectively. The fourth skills module, Mindfulness, is the foundation of DBT. Mindfulness skills refer to developing an awareness of the present moment and help with the critical ability to take a step back in a situation and be able to respond in a deliberate way rather than simply reacting. Mindfulness also helps us foster compassion for ourselves and develop the capacity to learn how to access our “wise mind” and tap into our intuition. Unlike interpersonal process or support groups, a  DBT group  is more like taking a class and most time is spent being taught skills and reviewing homework from in between sessions. Rather than being a closed group in which all participants start and end the group together, this group is designed to be a rolling admission group with entry points in between each four-week long module. While it is...

“I’m fine.” The second most told lie. It’s the phrase we use when we’re anything but fine. When we’re hurting, overwhelmed , or barely holding it together — but don’t want to be a burden. So we smile, nod, and say we’re okay… even when we’re drowning inside. If this is you: You don’t have to carry it alone. You deserve to be heard, supported, and cared for — without needing to explain everything perfectly. And if someone around you says they’re “fine”… check in. Gently. Lovingly. Sometimes that simple act can mean the world. https://pvdpsych.com/ #MentalHealthMatters   #ItsOkayToNotBeOkay   #CheckOnYourStrongFriends   #YouAreNotAlone   #ImFine   #pvdpsych
