Executive Functioning Coaching The  Therapists  at  PVD Psychological Associates  specialize in working with adolescents and college students. We provide executive functioning coaching to students presenting for treatment with difficulty managing their responsibilities at school. This coaching is provided as an adjunct to therapy or on its own. Of note, coaching is not therapy and therefore is not billable to insurance. Children and adolescents may be struggling with adjusting to a new school environment or may be experiencing behavioral issues secondary to anxiety, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD), or learning differences. We see many students in high pressure environments who are struggling with perfectionism, time management, stress management, and social adjustment. We also work with students to navigate the college application process. In addition to providing this coaching (as an adjunct to therapy or on its own) in our office, we offer   con...

Walking Depression

Image
It is important to differentiate this phenomenon from dysthymia which is a psychiatric diagnosis/medical term and refers to a chronic, low grade depression that lasts for two years or more. Often, people with dysthymia can still function, which is a hallmark of walking, or high functioning, depression, but the important difference is that the depressive symptoms of dysthymia are less severe than are those of walking depression . They likely still have other symptoms of depression like reduced appetite and weight loss, irritability, inability to derive pleasure from things, and feeling full of guilt or shame. https://pvdpsych.com/5-signs-of-walking-depression/

Therapy for LGBTQ

Image
Early intervention doubled up with comprehensive treatment are the starters to a better and healthier life. It is known and understood that the stigma that prevails in society still holds behind people who are a part of the LGBTQ community, hence online platforms with affirmative therapists have become an essential in every country. Fortunately, times are changing to understand the implications of living with a mental health condition and measures are being taken to rectify the damage done. Government initiatives that legalise the existence of the gay community, helping them organize and arrange cruelty free pride parades are an inclusive step, where people from the LGBT community find a safe space to share their associations and voice the injustice done to them. Gay affirmative therapists  are breaking barriers that once held the community behind to struggle alone in silence. Online therapy and anonymous therapists in India are providing safe spaces for individuals to come share t...

Finding a therapist who uses mindfulness in their work can be helpful — Specific types of therapy that use mindfulness to help you reduce anxiety and improve general emotional health. Therapy that incorporates mindfulness is not necessarily better than therapy that doesn’t — mindfulness is not the best solution to every problem. However, its benefits are wide-ranging for both mind and body. https://pvdpsych.com/

Trauma Therapy Near Me

Image
Having a traumatic experience or witnessing extraordinarily stressful events can have a profound impact on our psychological and emotional well-being. If you’ve ever felt that your life or safety has been put at risk, it can shatter your sense of security and make you feel helpless. The important thing to remember is that there are many different causes of trauma. It’s not the circumstance or event in itself that signals trauma, but what your emotional experience was of the event. Not everyone will react to the same event in the same way — for example, some people would find falling from a height traumatic, while others choose to jump out of planes for fun. The more frightened or helpless you feel, the more likely you are to be traumatised. PVD Psychological Associates  provide  Trauma Therapy  in  Providence RI . We provide  individual therapy, teen therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and more. https://pvdpsych.com/
