Postdoctoral Fellow in Providence
Meet Dr. Nathan Capalbo
I am a postdoctoral fellow at PVD Psychological Associates and provide individual and group therapy for children, adolescents, college students, and adults.
My areas of interest and specialization include identity development, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), life transitions, anxiety, depression, and college student mental health. I frequently work with children and adolescents experiencing school concerns, bullying, and the impact of parental separation. I also enjoy working with LGBTQIA-identified individuals and provide gender affirming therapy.
My Background
I received my Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology, as well as my doctorate in Clinical Psychology, from William James College (formerly the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology). I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the University of South Carolina Counseling Center where I provided individual and group therapy for college students. I have prior experience treating individuals in a variety of different settings, ranging from residential facilities, schools, college counselling centers, and in private practice.
My Approach & Philosophy
My first goal upon meeting new clients is to build a strong therapeutic relationship by creating a safe, non-judgmental environment. I take a client-centered approach to treatment, focusing on meeting clients where they are and working to facilitate personal growth and self-acceptance. In my work, I draw from a variety of evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as mindfulness practices. I tailor my approach in both individual and group therapy to each client’s unique background, needs and requests. I look forward to hearing from you!
