Teens Mental Illness

Image
According to World Heath Organization Adolescence (10-19 years) is a unique and formative time. Multiple physical, emotional and social changes, including exposure to poverty, abuse, or violence, can make adolescents vulnerable to mental health problems. Promoting psychological well-being and protecting adolescents from adverse experiences and risk factors that may impact their potential to thrive are critical for their well-being during adolescence and for their physical and mental health in adulthood. PVD Psychological Associates have expertise and a special interest in working with children, older adolescents, and adults at various stages in their education and/or careers in academia. https://pvdpsych.com/student-mental-health/

Winter and Holiday

Image
During a “normal time,” the approach of the cooler months can elicit feelings of dread. Many struggle with seasonal depression and are impacted greatly by the shorter days, having less time outside, less social interaction due to changes in weather, and the holiday season. This year is unique in that we now have to add fears of COVID-19, an election and everyone’s reaction to its outcome, the most intense social unrest in decades, and adjusting to (continued) school and working from home. We don’t know if we will be able to see loved ones for the holidays or if we will be alone. The list goes on and on. In short, it is completely reasonable to have concerns about what the fall and winter will bring. Now is a good time to think about coping strategies to use during that time and start to mentally prepare.   Christmas is one of the most joyous festivals of the year, awaited by everyone, including children and grown-ups. The glittery decoration, gifts, cakes, delicious meals, Christmas carols, everything about the festival is just splendid. But above all it's about the love, laughter and the precious time spent with the family and the loved ones.  It is that time of the year when the community comes together and bids adieu to the year, praying for a prosperous and peaceful New Year. This year due to COVID-19 it might be difficult to meet your near and dear ones on this day. But this should not take away the joy of this festival. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Holiday Season. With lots of love from PVD Psychological Associates. https://pvdpsych.com/

Individual Psychotherapy in Providence

Image
WHAT IS THE GOAL OF INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY? One of the aims of psychotherapy is to devise a plan for you to overcome whatever challenge you are facing so you can get your life back on track. If you are struggling with a mental health disorder or the aftermath of a drug addiction, there is nothing that can completely remove those things from your life, and psychotherapy is no exception. That said, a therapist will work closely with you to devise some unique and proactive strategies to manage and control the effects in your day-to-day life, both in the short- and long term. This is not something that can often be done as effectively in a group or family therapy session. https://pvdpsych.com/

From conflict with family and financial strain to just plain stress about having an enjoyable time and making sure others do, too, this time of year can present many challenges. The following six tips can keep you feeling more grounded and in control of your emotional response, and that can make all the difference. Practice mindfulness by tuning into your environment in order to move your focus back to the present and away from your worries. Count holiday decorations in a store, like the number of Santas you see while you’re shopping. If you’re at a holiday party or meal, focus on the taste of food.
