Best Licensed Psychologist Near Me
Meet Dr. Matthew Mooers
I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at PVD Psychological Associates. I offer online and in-person individual therapy to older adolescents, college students, and adults of all ages. My areas of specialization include: anxiety disorders, trauma-related concerns, relationship difficulties, work with members of the LGBTQIA+ community, couples therapy, and identity/personal values exploration.
My practice heavily incorporates cognitive behavioral therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and the services that I provide are grounded in my strong value of the relationship between therapist and client.
I emphasize cultural humility and sensitivity as I get to know my clients, and I am affirming of the multi-layered and uniquely intersecting identities that they hold. I take a holistic approach that integrates mindfulness, relaxation, and acceptance-based strategies. I work collaboratively with my clients to identify practical skills and ideas that they can implement to address the specific challenges that they bring into therapy.
My Background
I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology at Roosevelt University, and I have completed my clinical training in university counseling centers at Northeastern Illinois University, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Wichita State University. I also trained at United Stand and Guada Psychological Services in the Greater Chicago Area, as well as the School Based Health Clinic in Haysville, Kansas.
My Approach & Philosophy
My overarching goal as a therapist is to provide clients with opportunities to feel safe and supported as they more deeply consider who they are and what they want in life. I take a nonjudgmental approach to helping clients develop insight into patterns of challenges that may have them feeling stuck. I also encourage exploration and experimentation in facing these challenges as we work together toward long-term, meaningful change.
I respect the courage that it takes to begin working with a new therapist, and I would be happy to answer any questions that you might have in considering working with me. Feel free to reach out!
