Therapist in Rhode Island

Meet Dr. Jolie Weingeroff

Hello! I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Rhode Island and New York and offer online therapy to individuals in both of those states, in addition to my in-person practice in Rhode Island. I have advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and am intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for older adolescents and adults. I also incorporate strategies from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, and Behavioral Therapy. My areas of specialization include anxiety, eating disorders, working with college students and individuals in academia, relationship issues, and providing LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy.

As a clinical psychologist with extensive experience working in academic and research settings, I especially enjoy helping those in academia navigate the unique challenges and stresses associated with that culture. Graduate school, fellowships, and residency are critical times in identity development and can be extraordinarily demanding. These positions often lead to an increase in anxiety, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and over-identifying with one’s achievements or career. Faculty encounter similar challenges with work-life balance, burn out, departmental politics, and publishing pressure.

I frequently work with my clients to develop skills to manage their emotions, improve self-esteem, and establish deeper, more meaningful relationships. My style is direct, active, and flexible, with a focus on what works for each individual client.

My Background

I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Boston University, and received additional training and experience at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, as a pre-doctoral intern. After my internship, I completed my postdoctoral fellowship at CBT/DBT Associates in NYC, and worked in a variety of treatment settings as a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Therapist and Staff Psychologist. I previously held Faculty Appointments at Boston University and Harvard Medical School. I have also published and presented my research on eating disorders treatment and the course of borderline personality disorder (BPD) and comorbid disorders in peer-reviewed journals and at national and international conferences.

My Approach & Philosophy

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of treatment. As such, I maintain a validating environment to explore and develop a shared understanding of what brings my clients to therapy and how we can work together to accomplish specific goals. My clients describe me as authentic and able to challenge them in a respectful and caring manner, sometimes while using humor. My hope is for each client I work with to find and express their true selves. It is a privilege to accompany my clients as they develop a greater sense of fulfillment in life and more confidence in their ability to manage challenges. I look forward to hearing from you so we can begin this important process together!
