Affordable Therapy Near Me

Sandy Muraoka, PhD Licensed Psychologist

I earned my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. I have worked in a variety of settings including student counseling centers, nursing homes, and private practice. I draw from my experiences in these diverse settings to establish an individually tailored, holistic approach to my work with each client.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Rhode Island providing individual therapy for college students and adults of all ages. My areas of interest and specialization include women’s issues, life transitions, multicultural issues, depression, anxiety, and aging.

As a bilingual and bicultural therapist, I have a special interest in working with members of marginalized and oppressed groups to explore the intersectionality of ethnicity, gender, society, and socioeconomic class. I am also personally familiar with the challenges of assimilating into a new country and culture, as an immigrant from Cuba. I remain fluent in Spanish and hope that my office can be a safe space for those in the midst of transition..
I view myself as an eclectic practitioner and incorporate techniques from various types of therapy to fulfill the needs of my clients. I recognize that everyone is unique and views reality through an individual lens, depending on life experiences. I work with clients to identify small, measurable goals that we can accomplish together. Therapy does not need to be long term or big picture, if you don’t want it to be, and my primary goal is to meet my clients where they are and help them accomplish what they are looking for at this point in time. My clients describe me as a warm and down-to-earth person who provides a safe place for them to explore their lives and challenges. I focus on making clients feel comfortable and safe in revealing their true selves so they can discuss the changes they want to make in their lives. I am honored you are considering working with me and encourage you to please reach out with any questions you may have.
